As part of BusinessMirror’s campaign to promote everyone’s safety and well-being during the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited established and independent artists to perform at least one song in their own homes while urging everyone to stay indoors.
Formed in 1989, The Youth went on to became one of the most sought after alternative acts in the 1990s. Heavily influenced by the Wuds, the Youth’s garage band sound is best described as a mixture of punk, post-punk and alternative rock.
During the band explosion of the mid-90s, The Youth hit paydirt with their breakout 1994 release, Album na Walang Pamagat which contained the popular tracks, “Multo sa Paningin (Multong Bakla),” “Anak Ka ng Ina Mo,” “Takbo,” “Basura” and “Mukha ng Pera” which they performed exclusively for SoundStrip Live & in Quarantine.
Founding member Robert Javier who cheekily referred to “Mukha ng Pera” as a “wholesome business song” said the song is actually “about the social ills and usual corruption within us and amongst society, relevant then and now.”
In succeeding years, The Youth continued to release new material that included their 1997 follow-up album, Tao Po and Pirata, their comeback independent release. The band also underwent some line-up changes and for this particular performance are composed of Javier on bass and vocals, Marquel Martin on guitars and vocals, and James Rodriguez on drums.
