The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) said overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will be temporarily barred from traveling to Hong Kong as it imposed new travel restrictions in an attempt to contain new Covid-19 cases.
In an advisory, the POEA said Hong Kong authorities implemented its temporary entry restriction for non-Hong Kong residents on March 25, 2020, which is expected to last for 14 days.
“All non-Hong Kong residents coming from overseas countries and regions by plane will be denied entry to Hong Kong,” POEA said.
Earlier this week, Hong Kong, which is among the top destination for OFWs, reported a reemergence of the Covid-19 cases.
Hong Kong authorities attributed the new wave of its Covid-19 cases from travelers coming from abroad.
The government last February banned all Filipinos, including OFWs, from traveling to Hong Kong, Macau, and China due to its growing number of Covid-19 cases.
Two weeks after the ban, OFWs were again allowed to travel to Hong Kong and Macau.
