After her successful acting debut in Eat Bulaga as Yaya Dub, Maine Mendoza dips her toes into the music scene with her debut single, “Parang Kailan Lang.” The song was released by Universal Records on Friday, March 20 one of the company’s first digital releases during the enhanced community quarantine. The company stated that they plan on releasing more online content, including the accompanying music video for “Parang Kailan Lang” during the duration of the quarantine.
The song is a collaboration with the band Gracenote, with lead vocalist Eunice Jorge serving as songwriter. The smooth, easy listening vibe is a big departure from the heavy techno sound that has been dominating the pop industry. Mendoza’s vocals are cool and glides with the instruments as she sings about looking back at the past and putting one foot towards the future.
Nicely gliding into the ears, the song is also an addictive earworm that can instantly brighten up anyone’s day. The minimalist production of the song certainly gives off a fresh vibe that is comforting in this time of crisis.
Soon after its release, the song quickly reached number one on the Apple Music Philippines All-Genre Chart. Prior to that, it was also number one on the Apple Music Philippines Pre-Order Chart, having stayed there for 23 days straight prior to release.
“Parang Kailan Lang” is now available on all music streaming sites nationwide.
