Arjo Atayde believes that it is his responsibility to take care of himself and not just health-wise.
“I have always taken care of my skin and body. As an actor, I have to. But I’d never thought it would get to this point that I would avoid eggs when I have a pimple because dairy and poultry can aggravate it,” said the 29-year-old actor, whose skin tends to get oily.
Beautederm Corp. President and CEO Rhea Anicoche-Tan said she has always wanted Arjo to endorse skin-care products for her company.
“There is a demand for a skin-care line for men, and I think Arjo is perfect for it. He has the best skin. We wooed him for a year for this.”
Spruce & Dash is a patented line of products developed and created by Beautederm especially for men. The five products under Spruce & Dash men’s line are all FDA Notified. Tan coined the collection’s name based on their basic definitions with spruce being “neat in dress or appearance,” and dash being “impetuous with flamboyant vigor and confidence.”
The Spruce & Dash line includes Beau Charcoal Soap, Hugh Shaving Cream, Brawn Antiperspirant White Spray for feet and underarms, Charcoal Charmer Detoxifying Peel-Off Mask, and Lad Hair Pomade.
Arjo’s favorites are the Beau Charcoal Soap, Brawn Antiperspirant White Spray and Hugh Shaving Cream. The soap, he said, is his last cleansing step after a day of wearing makeup. He also uses it as a body soap because it helps him smell fresh all day, particularly when he’s outdoors. He uses the spray on his feet before putting on his socks.
Arjo said he likes being a Beautederm endorser because they are like family. Arjo, his sister Ria and their mom Sylvia Sanchez are all Beautederm ambassadors. Sylvia is also a reseller with her own Beautederm outlets.
“Tita [Tan] always sends us a lot of products, so we get to try them, and even ask our friends to try them,” said Arjo.
Actor Carlo Aquino, a Beautederm ambassador since 2013, is also one of the faces of Spruce & Dash.
“Achi [Tan] was the first to get me as an ambassador. I wasn’t very vain before. Achi helped me become more conscious because, after all, I am an actor, and I have to take care of myself,” said Carlo.
The actor’s favorite Spruce & Dash products are the soap and the Charcoal Charmer Detoxifying Peel-Off Mask, which he finds easy to apply and remove.
Tan created the Spruce & Dash products so that both men and women can use it. They’re all gentle but effective and formulated with the best ingredients available. “There is a demand for men’s products, and we’re very happy to be doing these for our male customers and clients who have skin care and grooming needs,” said Tan.
Beautederm is reliant on celebrities as its brand ambassadors nationwide. “I want to make the brand ambassadors feel they’re important to me, that they’re family. I am grateful to them,” said Tan.
We asked Tan how she measures the effectivity of her brand ambassadors and she said the effect of celebrities posting on social media or people watching their interviews on TV is immediate.
“We get inquiries on certain products, and the sales immediately increase. Interested customers and fans of the celebrities also immediately follow our Facebook and Instagram accounts,” she said.
The company currently has 45 ambassadors promoting different products. When Beautederm opens a physical store, it is always star-studded. More important for Tan is that her products are good and that Beautederm’s customers enjoy them.
