West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) recently installed a rainwater-harvesting facility at Putatan Elementary School in Muntinlupa City.
The project is in support of government’s initiative to have more rainwater storage as alternative raw water source.
The company built the 700-liter-capacity rainwater-harvesting system to provide water supply for nondrinking purposes, such as watering the school’s gardens and flushing the toilets.
“Given the current water shortage, having a rainwater-harvesting system can go a long way in augmenting the supply needs of consumers,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito Fernandez.
The rainwater-harvesting project was done with the support of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, and the Department of Education.

I understand Maynilad also built their latest water reclamation facility in Putatan. Anyway, as long as we delay building of the Kaliwa Dam or any other water source, we will be needing more and more of this.
It’s a sad statement that we now have to rely on collecting rainwater because our present sources of raw water are fast becoming more and more inadequate as we delay building new dams. And firms like Maynilad get the public’s ire, never mind that they are also victims of this shortage.
