THE Skyway Stage 3 extension project, a key plank of the government’s overall road infrastructure program to decongest Metro Manila, faces delay after a portion being constructed collapsed on Saturday (Feb. 1) following a big fire in Pandacan, Manila.
“The deadline will be moved,” Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) spokesman Anna Mae Lamentillo told BusinessMirror in a text message.
The “assessment is still ongoing,” however, as to the extent by which the accident would delay the crucial project, said Lamentillo, who also chairs the Build Build Build committee overseeing the major projects in the government’s infrastructure ramp-up in partnership with the private sector.
The fire broke out past 10:30 at a warehouse of San Miguel Corp. in Pandacan, said reports from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and reached Task Force Bravo as it kept raging and spreading 30 minutes later.
It was put under control just before 2 pm.
