Nowadays, the importation of dressed chicken continues to threaten the operations of local poultry farmers. Thankfully, they have a reliable partner in Bounty Agro Ventures Inc. (BAVI).
As the country’s second largest poultry integrator, BAVI, through its 359 broiler contract growers, has been producing chickens for its Bounty Fresh dressed chicken and roasted chicken brands Chooks-to-Go, Uling Roasters Litson Manok, and Reyal Litson Manok.
Their partnership with the poultry integrator has enabled the farmers to develop skills and acquire competencies towards modernizing their businesses. Among this nationwide network of growers are several farms just outside of Metro Manila.
These farms maintain conventional (open-sided) housing or modern (controlled-environment) housing to grow chickens to an average weight of 1.5 kgs in just 25 days. They receive a supply of day-old chicks, halal-certified quality feeds, and health supplements and medicines per production cycle. They also implement a No Antibiotics Ever (NAE) system to ensure chickens are naturally healthy and safer to eat.
Cavinti, Laguna small farm owner Blastique Sofronio values the veterinary visits, seminars, and dressing plant tours where he gets to seek expert advice on farm operations, acquire knowledge on best practices, and network with other contract growers. He credits BAVI for helping expand his conventional farm’s output to almost 10,000 heads per cycle.
Wilberto Alcasabas appreciates how the poultry integrator is always ready to solve production problems, especially since his farm in Cabuyao, Laguna has served as a BAVI experimental and model farm. Today, his controlled-environment farm produces 32,000 heads per cycle, and is often visited by trainees to study its operation.
Farm manager Ramoncito Bella of Zeta Farms in Cabuyao, Laguna, credits BAVI for being more focused and hands-on in terms of providing support and updating them on new techniques and procedures, to enable them to produce 76,000 heads per cycle.
BAVI also implements a unique payment scheme which addresses the contract growers’ financial needs. Once growers receive the hatchlings, they can already claim an advance check that can cover bank loan payments and operational expenses. The growers can also get the balance payment in as short as 10 working days after harvesting.
Every month, BAVI harvests hundreds of thousands of chickens from its contract growers. These pass through 19 world-class poultry processing plants, including two Halal-certified Mindanao plants, to ensure that only quality chicken products are made available to Filipino households.
