A bulletin issued on Monday by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has confirmed the presence of red tide in the coastal waters of Pampanga; Bataan (Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Hermosa, Orani, Abucay and Samal); Puerto Princesa Bay, Puerto Princesa City, in Palawan.
The bulletin also said the coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol; Cancabato Bay, Tacloban City, in Leyte, and Irong-irong, San Pedro, Silanga Bays in Western Samar; and Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur are still positive for paralytic shellfish poison that is beyond the regulatory limit.
BFAR issued a stern warning to the public against eating of shellfish from these red-tide affected coastal waters, noting that many cases of paralytic shellfish poisoning are recorded in December due to parties for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
