To commemorate the birthday of Andres Bonifacio this November 30, acclaimed singer-songwriter Davey Langit will release a new single that pays tribute to the fallen national hero.
Scheduled for release this Friday, November 29, the song “Oryang” was inspired by a fictional love letter by Bonifacio written for his wife, Gregoria “Oryang” de Jesus. Written by playwright Eljay Castro Deldoc who imagined the scenario, “Bonifacio’s letter” went viral in 2015.
Deldoc’s work was originally published on MAGHIMAGSIK: Mga Tula, Sulatin at Larawan ng Pakikibaka ni Andres Bonifacio at ng Kabataang Makabayan, a literary book released by CEGP and Anakbayan commemorating Bonifacio’s 150th birthday last 2015. The letter is posted on its entirety at the Facebook page of the League of Filipino Students – UP Diliman (LFS-UPD).
Langit reimagines Deldoc’s letter by lyrically capturing its essence and musically giving it a folk kundiman-esque flair. Here’s a short sample from Davey from his official Facebook artist page.
The song is now available on Spotify and ABS-CBN Music’s (Star Music) official YouTube channel.
