The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Friday announced the resumption of its crackdown against companies employing undocumented foreign workers.
In a statement, Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III issued Administrative Order No. 472 authorizing the deployment of over 400 new Labor and Employment Officers (LEO) nationwide for the operation, which will end on second week of Dec. this year.
The LEOs were tasked to conduct the following activities: check the legitimacy of the company as shown by the business permit and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registration; and verify the roster of local employees and the foreign national/s actually working at the time of inspection; assess Alien Employment Permit applicants, if there are any, and the company representative should certify that they are indeed hiring the foreign nationals.
“The labor inspectors will submit a report to the DOLE regional director one day after the conduct of verification inspection,” Bello said.
Majority or 135 of the LEOs were sent to Metro Manila, which is currently has the most number of foreign workers due to its large number of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) service providers.
Cagayan Valley region has the second most number of newly deployed LEOs with 42, followed by Central Luzon with 37 and CALABARZON with 34.
The rest were deployed in other regions nationwide.
DOLE earlier said the new round of inspection aims to validate the list foreign workers submitted by POGO service providers.
