Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) officials at the premier airport yesterday confiscated a total 88 kilos of assorted meat from the newly arrived passengers from China,Japan and Bangladesh.
The Bureau has confiscated 54 kilos of chicken meat, 19 kilos of pork meat, 12.5 kilos of duck meat and 4 kilos of beef brought in by passengers coming from Xiamen, Guangzhou, Jingjang, China Malasia and Narita, Japan.
Yesterday, another 34 kilos of fresh meat were confiscated by BAI and customs agents from incoming passengers mostly from China. They brought with them fresh chicken and sausages without necessary import permit or health certificates from the point of origin.
Airport BAI Quarantine service Dr. Reynaldo Quilang said they confiscated the meat because they came from countries affected by African Swine Fever.
Quilang said they are intensifying their campaign to contain the ASF virus that affected the local hog industry by using footbaths at the airport and preventing meat and canned products from entering the country.
