Male farmworkers earn an average of P25 more than their female counterparts nationwide, Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) data showed.
Data also showed nominal wage rates for farmworkers averaged P306.28 per day, or P7,350.72 per month.
Male farmworkers earn P310.16 daily, or P7,443.84 per month, while female agriculture workers only earn P285.51 per day, or P6,852.24 a month.
The difference in male and female nominal daily wages in the Philippines averaged P24.65. The difference in nominal daily wages was wider at P28.92 in 2017, but was narrower at P17.45 posted in 2016.
In terms of region, Calabarzon reported the highest nominal wage rate at P373.92 per day, or P8,974.08 a month, while Northern Mindanao recorded the lowest at P259.36 per day, or P6,224.64 monthly.
Calabarzon also registered the highest daily wage rates for the males and the females at P373.82, or P8,971.68 monthly and P376.84, or P9,044.16 a month, respectively.
Meanwhile, the lowest payment for the male workers was observed in Northern Mindanao at P260.77 per day or only P6,258.48 a month.
The females got the least payment in Central Visayas at P237.14 per day, or P5,691.36 per month.
“The daily wage rate differential between the male and female farmworkers was wider in Mimaropa at P115.04,” the PSA said.
Palay farmworkers received the highest nominal wage rate at P324.81 per day, while corn farmworkers had the least wage rate at P264.29 per day.
The daily nominal wage rates of those working in coconut and sugarcane farms stood at P317.27 and P273.38, respectively.
The PSA data was published in the “Trends in Agricultural Wage Rates” which contained the results of the 2018 Agricultural Wage Rate Survey.
The survey covered a total of 5,582 sample households who hired farmworkers particularly for the four major crops, namely, palay, corn, coconut and sugarcane.
