IT’S been a long three years for wrestling fans, but the wait is finally over as the WWE make its much-awaited return to the Philippines.
The squared circle is once again set as Wilbros Live presents “WWE Live Manila” this September 20 at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The show will be headlined by two Wrestlemania XXV rematches: Roman Reigns against Drew McIntyre in a Street Fight, and WWE Champion Kofi Kingston defends his title againt Daniel Bryan.
For the past year Drew McIntyre has been obsessed with ending Reigns’s career and will stop at nothing to put the Big Dog down. Reigns has been the target of McIntyre’s assaults following his return from a four-month battle with leukemia and despite Reign’s victory at Wrestlemania, the fiery Scot has been relentless is his assaults. Will a no-holds-barred street match finally put an end to this vicious rivalry?
This year has also been Kofi Kingston’s, who is out to defy all odds to become the first African-born WWE Champion in history, as well as WWE’s 30th Triple Crown and 20th Grand Slam champion. He has also proven to be a fighting champ, defending his title from the likes of Kevin Owens, Dolph Ziggler and Samoa Joe.
But his biggest nemesis remains to be Bryan, the man he defeated for the championship at Wrestlemania. Kingston’s rise as WWE Champion came as an unexpected welcome, something Bryan, the once WWE Universe crowd-favorite, simply cannot stand.
Making their return to Manila are Charlotte Flair and Kevin Owens. Charlotte saw action here three years ago, successfully defending her women’s title against Sasha Banks, while Owens won over both Sami Zayn and Seth Rollins in a triple-threat match. Although the final matches have yet to be revealed, the other WWE Superstars initially included in the lineup are Asuka, Elias, The New Day Xavier Woods and Big E, Shinsuke Nakamura, Rusev, Bayley, Carmella, and many more, although the final matches have yet to be revealed.
“WWE Live Manila” is presented in partnership with Wilbros Live, a leading concert and live events promoter in the Philippines. “Wilbros Live is thrilled to bring WWE Live back to Manila this year,” said Winston Llamas, executive producer of Wilbros Live. “We are excited to return to Manila where the passionate WWE Universe can see their favorite WWE Superstars live,” said Chris Marsh, vice president and general manager of WWE Asia Pacific. “Our fans can look forward to experiencing another action-packed night of family-friendly entertainment that will create life-long memories.
