RESORTS World Manila (RWM) has emerged as the country’s first green integrated resort (IR) after it signed up for the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) project of ABS-CBN Foundation.
“This is our second partnership with the ABS-CBN Foundation, with Bantay Langis being the first last May,” said RWM Chief Operating Officer Stephen Reilly.
“RWM remains committed to attaining positive results in our mutual efforts toward sustainable development. We certainly consider partnerships such as this as win-win strategies for all stakeholders, as we all move forward in creating more viable solutions that curb the adverse effects of electrical and electronic waste,” he added.
Through the project, all of RWM’s electrical and electronic equipment refuse will be collected, treated and recycled by the foundation’s DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources)-accredited transporter and recycler, Envirocare Management Precision Inc.
Funds from the waste materials will then be donated to ABS-CBN Foundation’s Bantay Kalikasan program that includes the protection of the La Mesa Watershed, the Green Initiative ecotourism projects, and the preservation of key biodiversity areas in the country.
“Resorts World Manila is the first, truly green integrated resort in the Philippines,” said Johanna Santos, ABS-CBN Foundation’s project director.
The partnership between the two was formalized via a memorandum of agreement signed by their respective officials.
