Over 800,000 people have participated in the ongoing voter registration for the expected 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.
Of these registration figures as of August 24, Comelec Spokesman James B. Jimenez said 570,743 are 18 years and above, while the remaining 232,183 are 15 to 17 years old.
He said this was the result of their three-week nationwide voter registration, which started this month.
The registration process will continue up to September 30, 2019.
The poll body earlier said it expects at least 2 million participants of the barangay elections and 1.2 million joining the SK polls after the new round of voter registration.
To qualify as a regular voter, an applicant must be a Filipino citizen who is not yet a registered voter, who will be at least 18 years of age, and residing in the barangay for at least six months on or before election day on May 11, 2020.
Meanwhile, applicants for SK polls should be at least 15 years old but not more than 30 years of age on election day, and residing in the barangay for at least six months before election day.
Comelec is set to release the final list of registered voters for the 2020 BSKE in October.
