GLOBE Telecom Inc. led the fixed wireless game in the first half of 2019, after cornering almost 90 percent of the market, a ranking company official said on Monday.
Citing a Kantar Media study, Globe President Ernest L. Cu said his group accounted for 84.4 percent of the fixed wireless market in the first six months of the year, up from its 76.9-percent market share a year prior.
This, he said, helped in increasing the home broadband penetration rate in the Philippines to 27 percent as of end-June from 16 percent last year. “Deploying fixed wireless solutions for homes has been a game changer for Globe. It allowed us to provide more homes with high-speed broadband as quickly and as comprehensively as possible,” he said.
Globe started offering fixed wireless home broadband solutions in 2017, when it launched a prepaid service that served the demand for sachet connectivity. This year, Globe introduced Southeast Asia’s first 5G fixed wireless home broadband service, which could provide fiber-like speeds ranging from 50 Mbps to 100 Mbps.
