Allow me to devote this column to the promotion of several events related to the arts. First off, the NCCA Gallery is celebrating its 10th anniversary alongside the 50th closing anniversary exhibit of The Saturday Group of Artists with an art show called the “Saturday Group Affirmation.” This opens on July 18, 4 p.m. at the NCCA Gallery and will run for the whole month of July from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The public is invited to view the works for free during this period. I would also like to personally invite you to join us for the opening program on the 18th.
Those who are interested in children’s literature will be happy to know that the celebration of the 36th National Children’s Book Day is happening on July 16, 9 a.m., at the Little Theater Lobby of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. This event is brought to you by the Philippine Board on Books for Young People, in cooperation with the CCP, the National Library of the Philippines and the Museo Pambata. Those who would like to be part of the celebration must get in touch with Jai through 352-6765 local 118. The suggested attire for this event is semiformal.
The innovative book bar Kwago, located at Warehouse Eight in Makati City, is holding a two-day writing workshop for writers who want to explore Art Writing for Media, or those who want to write about topics concerning the visual arts. The workshops will be held on July 20 and 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will be facilitated by Gwen Bautista and Marz Aglipay. The workshop fee includes coffee, snacks and handouts. Only 10 participants will be accommodated, so send a message to info@artplus.ph if you’re interested.
The same venue, Kwago, also offers to the public its Open Space Program, an open platform for anyone who might want to hold an activity or project at the bookstore. If the event or project fits Kwago’s mission and vision, they will help with its development and launching. Ideas may be sent to isipkwago@gmail.com with the subject line “Open Space Application.”
Finally, Mutant and Marvels: A Superheroic Writing Workshop for Teens and Grown-ups is still accepting participants for its July 20 and 21 (12 to 17 years old), and July 27 and 28 (18 years old and above) batches at Fully Booked Bonifacio High Street from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A total of 12 participants per batch will be accommodated. The workshop will be facilitated by multi-awarded writer Tweet Sering. For inquiries, e-mail contact@tweetsering.com.
