WITH the new comedy Feelennial, Ai-Ai de las Alas once again proved that she’s still the undisputed Comedy Queen of Philippine entertainment. She has found a new leading man in Bayani Agbayani, whose deadpan humor in the movie compliments Ai-Ai’s brand of comedy.
Feelennial is about “aging people” trying to look for happiness and the second chance for love in this age of the millennials using social media—with the help of family and friends. That makes it a family movie, showing social media a positive tool to unite.
On the side, it shows hilarious ways young people and the feeling millennials use the “in things” with regards to mobile phones and the various apps available today.
Talking about ensemble acting, Ai-Ni, the new Ai-Ai and Bayani tandem, is ably supported by veritable newbies (except for Ina Feleo and Nar Cabico): Raffy Roque, Nicole Donesa, Jelai Andres, Sophia de las Alas, Arvic Tan, Skelly Skelly and Micah Muñoz who gave solid performances to highlight the duo’s acting.
In the movie, Raffy (Bayani’s niece) and Arvic (Ai-Ai’s son) are the younger loveteam that was given moments to shine, as well.
The duo’s subplot provides lessons for the young and the young-at-heart: to never be impulsive and never rush things such as love and marriage. Raffy also gives an outstanding rendition of the movie theme song “Himala,” as arranged by Robin Nievera.
Feelennial has found a new comedy director in the person of TV series director, Rechie del Carmen.
Congratulations to Pops Fernandez for her first movie venture under DSL Productions in collaboration with Cignal Entertainment.
Fernandez, who has been staging concerts, used her late mother Dulce’s DSL Productions to honor her and continue her legacy, having produced the singer’s concert. Her ex-husband Martin Nievera attended the premiere night on Monday to show his support. Both have a cameo role in the movie, which added a kilig factor for the audience. Incidentally, Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez will be having a series of concerts in Europe this August.
Feelennial is now in theaters everywhere. It’s worth your time and money.
