SINGAPORE—Infor said on Tuesday that it is keen on expanding further its presence in various industries in the Philippines given the country’s constant progress and development, robust movement of goods and young population.
“The Philippines is such a millennial country,” Infor Asia Pacific (AsPac) SVP and GM Helen Masters told members of Southeast Asian media during their Executive Summit held at their regional headquarters here. “So we’re investigating the market in the Philippines and just looking at how we can expand there.”
She said Infor is currently doing well in verticals, such as the food and beverage, fashion, manufacturing, and distribution in terms of the number of clients they serve in the domestic market.
Bullish on their local business prospects, she revealed they are setting sights on other sectors as well as potential growth areas.
“The logistics per se is one, I think, we are keen on,” Masters cited. “The other [area] which is also very interesting to us would be around the BPOs.”
The top executive noted business-process outsourcing companies continue to gain momentum, helping buttress the country’s economy while providing more job opportunities to Filipino work force, particularly the so-called millennials.
It is estimated that around 1.2 million people are directly employed in BPOs, with revenues reaching up to $24 billion in 2018.
“We already have a footprint there for that [sector with] a couple of customers. Because they hire so many people, we use our talent assessment software, for instance, to some of our customers there,” she said.
The company aims to work with the public sector, given the massive “Build, Build, Build” program of the Duterte administration.
“The government is spending a lot and pumping the money back into the economy,” Masters said, observing the same trend in other AsPac countries like China, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. “We’re starting to see the money going into infrastructure. So that’s good for all of us.” Roderick L. Abad
