GIVEN the government’s “Build, Build, Build” program, Republic Cement Services Inc. calls for safety in its own construction projects as the company aims to achieve 5 million safe man-hours.
Studies have shown that accidents within the place of work lead to loss of operations.
In fact, data from the International Labor Organization shows that the Philippines lost in 2013 as much as 66,000 operational days due to cases of occupational injury, which resulted to temporary incapacity for work.
With the safety of its employees on top of its priorities, the cement-maker already recorded 4.5 million safe man-hours for its expansion projects in Bulacan, Batangas and Iligan.
This entails that no lost-time injuries or fatalities had taken place within the said timeframe.
Not complacent of this accomplishment, the firm recently gathered more than a thousand construction project workers at its Norzagaray Plant Dome for its “Go for 5M!” Safety Rally.
Republic Cement has also enjoined construction-industry players for collaboration toward building a safety culture in the sector, through the establishment of the “Republic Contractors Safety Guild” in 2018.
Aboitiz Construction Inc., AECOM, BetonBau Phil. Inc, DAL Elektrik Otomasyon and CME Technology Phil. Inc. were among its contractors represented during the said event.
“The construction site is a dangerous place, especially if we don’t have a strong safety culture. We’re very proud of this accomplishment, and we are glad to have our employees and contractors on board in our commitment to safety,” said Republic Cement President Nabil Francis.
“Together, we can build a safe environment, where people can go home to their families at the end of the day. Together, we can build a stronger republic,” he added.
