MUCH has been said about people, especially women dreaming or wanting to have youthful or timeless beauty, a type of beauty that never goes out of style and that transcends from generations to generations.
For those who are vainglorious about their beauty, time is their enemy as time consumes everything. Aging is a natural and inevitable process. But it doesn’t mean aging would have to be lonely, lousy and ugly.
Impressively, for some, time is their ally. They are not afraid to come face-to-face with it and look it in the eyes as if they are not bound by it.
Lorna Tolentino, the Philippine Movies’ Grand Slam Queen, like Cleopatra, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Bette Davis, and some legendary women, has successfully proven time and again that aging can look this good.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Tolentino in the showbiz industry. When she started her movie career in 1969, many of us still were not even born then but, ironically, she just looks like our older sister.
Filipinos know her, aside from being the wife of Rudy Fernandez, an icon in the movie industry, as a young and beautiful actress who rose to fame for drama flicks back in the time when other gorgeous and sexy actresses like Alma Moreno, Amy Austria, and more, where vying for stardom, as well.
A certified icon of beauty, Lorna has been regarded as the ultimate template of the gold standard of beauty and elegance. She has also been hailed as the pictorial queen of the ’80s, ’90s, and 2000s as she became an industry leader in beauty and fashion with the chic and stylish looks that she has made popular for three glorious decades.
She got married at an early age in 1983 and had two children. 2008 was probably the saddest and lowest point in her life when Rudy Fernandez suddenly passed away due to illness.
That would have been enough reason for her to be desperate and look like one but that did not even gave her enough reason to cower to tragedy and desperation. In fact, nobody has seen her miserable, beatdown and unpolished. Much to her credit, she managed to look composed and still in control. Whenever she appears on television, she looks exactly the same when she appeared on her award-winning movies—lovely and sophisticated.
A chat with her at a recent launch of a product of Beautederm Corp., which she’s endorsing, she did not only reveal her regiment but also opened her heart to everyone during the event.
“Beautiful is not a look; it’s a state of mind, a code that you live with everyday. You just have to know who you are and who you are not, its not the outward appearance that makes you attractive, its your heart,” stressed the Grand slam queen.
When a person’s heart is full with knowing who she is, the people around her notice that and celebrate with her on that. She doesn’t claim to be special or act like one or go out bragging what she have and what she can do but she embraces everything she is.
She also said that she is much aware of her flaws as she is aware of her talents and abilities, making her completely in touch with her uniqueness as an artist and as an individual.
Asked about by the media friends on how she managed to maintain her good physique, she wittingly retorted by claiming that she doesn’t give much fuss about having that body of a beauty siren, after all she’s been there already.
To her, the idea of what constitutes the “ideal shape” should be completely left to the person herself and not to the opinion of other people.
When talking about body shape, people have this notion of Hollywood definition when women have big breast, slim waist, slender posture and what not, while men should have well-sculptured, perfectly ripped body oozing with muscles and not fat.
But for Tolentino, she still wants to give credence to that old and abused adage “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” and that should no one be inconvenienced in a nasty way just to get the appreciation of the others.
One noticeable truth about her is her facial glow or that gorgeous looks which she has successfully maintained in the last five decades in the industry despite and in spite of the silly schedules imposed upon them whenever they have tapings or shootings, compelling them to work for long hours and rest for measly amount of time.
Her explanation was plain and simple. “Take care of your skin and live healthy”
She explains that if you take care of your skin, you’ve got less repair and cover-work to do down the line. If you eat right and live healthy, nothing can go wrong, one thing she has proven over time, as well.
While we need enough time for rest to allow our body to rejuvenate and heal, a good skincare regimen can also do the works.
She also advised everyone in the room to look for experts or professionals who can and will willingly and decorously provide professional services.
Asked if she recommend anyone, she confidently and proudly endorses Beautederm which has been in the business for years and is trusted by celebrities and those who want to look, feel and stay beautiful.
