SUBIC Bay International Terminal Corp. (SBITC) is further boosting its capacity with the procurement of two new empty handlers from Finnish cargo-handling solutions provider Kalmar.
In a statement, the company said the new empty handlers—which are forklifts designed to stack containers—will be utilized for its empty container depot. Each handler has a lifting capacity of 9 metric tons and can stack empty containers up to 6 feet high. It helps to fully maximize space to load and unload containers.
“Our new containers are part of this year’s port-improvement plan and will be used in our empty container depot. In fact, our terminal has increased its mobile stacker fleet by 100 percent compared to January this year,” the company statement read.
The new handlers will be fully operational this June.
Likewise, “there will be another equipment arriving within the year to fulfill its port augmentation this year,” the company said.
“We’re looking forward to the arrival of more cranes later this year to complete our 2019 port-improvement plan. We will continue to invest in improving our facilities as a world-class free port for the benefit of our locators and port users,” the statement read.
