Eight deserving incoming college students from Quezon province were welcomed on Wednesday by the SM Store Lucena personnel as recipients of SM Foundation Scholarship Program for School Year 2019-2020.
Most of the students came from cities of Tayabas and Lucena, and the town of Sariaya, saying they were really surprised to be chosen as scholars, out of hundreds who applied. They favored engineering and accountancy as courses, at Mamuel S. Enverga University Foundation.
Priscilla Terrenal, SM Store assistant branch manager, told the new scholars that, aside from the tuition fee and monthly allowance, they are allowed to work part-time at the store on school vacation.
Maricel Alquiros, mall manager, SM City Lucena advised the students to treasure the opportunity presented by the SM Foundation and not to stop striving hard to reach their goals.
The scholars also found an ally in Lilibeth Azores representing SM Foundation, who guided them from the process of their qualifying examinations to the final background interview up to the awarding ceremony. The simple awarding of college scholarships was held at the training room, SM City Lucena administration office.
The eight scholars from Quezon are part of the 500 incoming freshmen this year who were granted with SM scholarship, bringing the total number of scholars to 1,200 in the country for School Year 2019-2020.
Since 1993 the program has produced 3,274 college scholar-graduates who excel at their chosen courses.
SM scholars for SY 2019-2020 include (seated, from left) James Ragudo, Roanne Jezrel Asuncion, Charlene Claire Cacao, Manilla Moneth Narzabal, Chrystal Jane Reyes, Gene Anne Marie Llego, Kristelle Anne Rea and Marvin Dollano.
