NATIONAL security and foreign affairs expert Juan Ponce Enrile, one of the strongest candidates running again for the Senate under the Pwersa ng Masa, has lauded the Philippine Council of Management (Philcoman), the country’s oldest management organization, for its various advocacies in helping rebuild the country.
In particular, Enrile lauded Philcoman for its strong stand against all forms of cheating during elections.
Enrile praised Philcoman for its nationalistic stand since 1954, and for its consistency in safeguarding the country’s socioeconomic interest through sound management.
Its other advocacies include the following:
1. Supporting Philippine industrialization:
a. Encouraging the effective dissemination of nationalist industrialization policies to intensify Philippine Manufacturing Industries;
b. Legislative lobbying against monopolies;
c. Commercializing and marketing of Philippine inventions; and
d. Conducting business and management training for inventors.
2. Promotion of excellence in governance through effective implementation of ethical management and leadership in all aspects of Philippine society:
a. Selection of Management Man or Woman of the Year; and
b. Selection of Corporation of the Year.
3. Continuous development and innovation in the advancement of Philippine management principles, concepts and corporate values:
a. Regular in-house and public training and seminars;
b. Yearly National Management Congress; and
c. Publications of business books, newsletters, periodicals and management modules for schools, colleges and universities.
4. Strong support of national security issues, including environmental protection through climate adaptation and mitigation:
a. Institute requisition, collection and distribution of donations either of cash or in-kind for disaster relief operations;
b. Adopting denuded areas and implementing planting of trees in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources;
c. Circulating reading materials for the enhancement of awareness in environmental protection; and
d. Legislative lobbying against all types of environmental pollution in the form of solid, liquid and gas.
5. Small-business management and entrepreneurship empowerment:
a. Viable project studies and training modules for urban poor livelihood programs; and
b. Adopting a marginalized community and providing a livelihood program with complete business training, tools and microfinancing.
Philcoman was founded in 1954 by 10 associations and organized groups under the inspirational guidance of Dr. Lilian M. Gilbreth and Dr. Daniel M. Braum, (the latter was chief of the Training branch, US Government’s General Services Administration), both of whom were on extended assignment in the Philippines, providing also inspirational guidance. Dean Cesar H. Concio was the founder and the first Philcoman President serving until 1963.
Affiliated with the World Council of Management, Philcoman has chalked up a continuing series of achievements in its 65th year history. In fulfillment of its mission to propagate the principles and practice of scientific management in the Asian region, Philcoman has hosted two international management congresses, conducted strategic management seminars and held the effective program on negotiation and conflict management, among others.
