THE Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) on Tuesday said it is investigating reports that low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) has an inordinate number of flight cancellations.
“The airline would be penalized if it canceled flights attributable to the airline,” CAB Executive Director Carmelo Arcilla said during an ABS-CBN television interview.
He said the CAB is investigating cancellations that has affected the low-cost carrier.
Cebu Pacific on Tuesday announced it is canceling 58 domestic round-trip flights until May 10.
So far, the low-cost carrier has canceled 44 flights on April 28 to 29, citing damaged aircraft and heavy traffic.
CEB Spokesman Charo Logarta told the BusinessMirror the flight cancellations “were due to operational concerns and the confluence of many other factors.”
“The unprecedented flight disruption was due to various factors, including several damaged aircraft and heavy traffic that prevented flights from taking off and landing on time,” she added.
In an official statement released on Monday night, CEB said: “As part of the ongoing effort to improve on-time performance and reduce inconvenience to our passengers, Cebu Pacific and Cebgo will be canceling 58 round-trip flights until May 10, 2019.”
“We are truly sorry for the inconvenience this has caused our passengers,” CEB said, adding passengers on canceled flights may opt to rebook flights for travel within 30 days from original departure date, free of charge; reroute to/from alternate airports for travel within 30 days, subject to availability of seats; get a full refund or place the full cost of the ticket in a travel fund.
“Passengers on canceled flights will receive one round-trip travel voucher which they can use for future flights,” CEB said.
Affected guests may manage their own booking through the “Manage Booking” section of the Cebu Pacific web site (Cebu Pacific-Retrieve Booking).
