Customs examiners and x-ray screeners went into panic when an outbound package was found to contain images of three hand grenades.
The explosives were found at the export warehouse near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) before Holy Week.
Naia Customs District Collector Mimel M. Talusan said customs agents slowly brought out the grenades from the carton box for thorough inspection.
The package was sent by a certain Peter Lhung of Heinen Import and Export Corp. of Angeles City addressed to (Budk) On the Edge Brands Worldwide Inc. 475 HWY 319 South Moultrie, Georgia, US.
The content was declared as “Philippine handicraft” made of resin weighing some 1.40 kilograms wrapped with transparent plastic.
When examined, Talusan said the grenades were all replicas of Stielhan dragnet, Mills bomb and an M67 grenade that was made of resin “but looks real enough.”
Talusan said that the package was confiscated because it was not declared as replicas of grenades, and it is not allowed inside the aircraft for security reasons.
