Former Solicitor General Pilo Hilbay on Sunday said the Philippine National Police should file deportation proceeding against the Chinese woman who threw a cupful of taho (soy pudding) at a police officer.
“We have no reason not to deport a foreigner who treats a Filipino policeman like garbage,” Hilbay said, reacting to Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin’s attempt to de-emphasize the public outrage caused by the incident.
Jiale Zhang created a scene that went viral after a policeman asked her to finish the drink before entering the MRT-3 Boni station in Mandaluyong City. She was charged for direct assault and disobedience to agent of person in authority. She was later released after an apology.
Hilbay also compared government’s treatment of Zhang and that of Sr. Patricia Fox, an Australian nun who did charity work in the Philippines for decades.
“Sister Fox was deported for speaking about human rights,” Hilbay said.
Hilbay, an Otso Diretso senatorial candidate, has repeatedly called out the Philippine government for its favorable rules toward Chinese, citing bilateral deals that are unfair to the Philippines and the influx of illegal Chinese workers. He has called out the government for these things because “ayokong maging dayuhan sa sariling bayan.”
