The CrossFit community in the west of Metro Manila accepted the challenge and come together in the first-ever Suffer Fest City Series 2018.
In November 30, more than 150 athletes from 7 CrossFit boxes showcased their grit and passion through a friendly competition. This one of a kind event for budding athletes was an initiative of Primal Ape CrossFit that defies the competitive image of CrossFit.
Xhi Tabalan, head coach of Primal Ape CrossFit shares the reason for spearheading the acitivity, “Suffer Fest’s aim is to let the up and coming athletes experience the feel of competition in a fun way and to bring the boxes within the west of the Metro together as one community.”
CrossFit seems to have a reputation in the Philippines as an activity dominated by a number of elite athletes and also have competed in numerous high-level competitions here and abroad. Coach Pierre Navasero, one of the organizers believes that it shouldn’t be the case. For him, ”Every athlete can showcase their strengths and skills in any available venues aside from their CrossFit boxes. With this, it can also promote a wider and thriving community.”
During the event, promising and seasoned athletes have competed for the following divisions. The RX Male and Female and RX Masters Male and Female were composed experienced athletes. Potential competitors were included in Scaled Male and Female and Scaled Masters Male and Female. While those who were just starting with there CrossFit journey were able to join the Fitness Division.
Without the help of sponsors as well who have supported the event, it couldn’t be more successful. Some were kind enough to give the prizes for the athletes. The top 2 athletes in the RX Division got the chance to take away pairs of shoes from Reebok.
The coming together of boxes in the west of Metro Manila has proved that CrossFit community is definitely thriving. Suffer Fest City Series is brings an inclusive spirit that everyone has a chance to push themselves to the limits no matter what level they are in CrossFit. This 2019, may the CrossFit community in the Philippines also benefit with this one of a kind activity.
