OVERLY contoured faces, scary looking micro-bladed brows, and lashes that look like spiders are some trends we wish to see less of this year. Really, if I see one more friend with badly done micro-bladed brows, I am going to say something. But there are also so many beauty trends I would love to see more of.
Here are some of them:
- Red lipstick. So many girls are afraid to wear, thinking it is too bold. But red is a universally flattering color that, really, anyone can pull off. It’s a matter of what red lipstick you choose. My favorite reds include MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam I and Chili and Charlotte Tilbury Carina’s Love. My choices are usually reds that pull toward the brown and orange spectrum. Those look good on me because of my skin’s warm undertones. True reds like Dior Beauty’s iconic 999 also looks okay on me.
- Natural looking but groomed brows. Instagram brows look good on, well, Instagram. In real life, it’s a bit scary looking, to be honest. Brows that are neatly groomed and natural looking are better for school and work. I like straight brows with a barely there arch, filled in with feathery strokes using a product like Benefit’s Gimme Brow. Beauty girl Belle Rodolfo (@bellerodolfo on Instagram) is famous for her natural looking brows. Belle does not have her brows waxed or threaded. She does not want the hair below her brow taken out.
- Glitter. Who says you cannot wear glitter for daytime? Glitter, when done properly, is so eye-catching. Fenty Beauty’s Diamond Bomb is glitter in a compact. It’s easy to use and works for the face and body. I apply a bit at the top of my cheekbones and I am good to go. It is one of my best beauty buys for 2018.
- Sustainable beauty products. Unilever recently launched Love Beauty and Planet with three lines to the Philippines. The lines include the Murumuru Butter and Rose Collection, the Argan Oil and Lavender Collection, and the Tea Tree Oil and Vertiver Collection. The bottles of the products excluding caps and labels are made of recycled plastic and designed to be recycled. Unilever has teamed with a Filipino company for consumers to turn in bottles after use. The products are vegan and contain no silicones, parabens and dyes. The conditioners are easy to rinse because the brand believes that “footprints belong on the sand, not on the planet.” Love Beauty and Planet will first be sold online through Lazada, Beauty MNL, Zalora, Beauty Bubble, Shopee and Watsons Online on January 21. A one-time pop-up happens at Power Plant Mall from January 25 to 27. The products will be available in select drugstores and department stores throughout the Philippines beginning February 1.
- Touches of neon. From hair to eyelids, touches of neon definitely brighten any look. Think pink streaks on the hair, or indigo eyeliner to make your eyes pop. It would also be nice to see blush in unconventional colors like yellow and lavender. Nails are also a good way to wear this trend.
