The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported the arrest of 83 individuals and confiscation of 82 firearms since following the launch of police checkpoint operations and implementation of the gun ban in view of the upcoming local and national elections.
“Our checkpoint operations are doing well since the start of the election period. We have taken off the tools of crime in the streets,” PNP Spokesman Chief Supt. Benigno Durana Jr. said.
He said some of those arrested were legitimate gun holders who still carried their firearms outside their residence without necessary permits from the Commission on Elections, while the others were in possession of loose firearms.
Durana said the implementations of checkpoints and gun ban were being complemented by the issuance of warrants of arrests against wanted individuals.
