FOR years, big labels and established stars dominated the Philippine music scene. But the rise of online music sites, including Bandcamp, SoundCloud and Spotify, has made it possible for grass roots bands to promote themselves.
Thanks to various independent groups and bands, talents in the local music industry are now being recognized in a big way. The 3rd indie Awards Night, to be held on January 19, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. inside Skippy’s GastroPub at BGC in Taguig City, will be headlined by the effort of Bandista Productions.
Bandista started with the “rock and roll dream” of a young lady named CJ Santana. Conceptualized in March 24, 2014, it actually started as a group page that discussed a common love for 90s rock music. Together with Marvin Bedico and Roxy Hizon, they helped aspiring musicians as they provided a small platform and a little breeding ground. Fast-forward to three fruitful years, Bandista Production has since become known in independent music circles by producing great shows and stirring things within its community.
The Indie Awards now serves as a platform to provide recognitions to individuals, institutions and artists whose contributions to the local independent music movement deserve to be lauded.
Aside from the awarding proper, expect rocking performances by Humdinger, Candila, Beewings, Ist Drop, kyah, pest Inside, Radioherb, Short Visit and Locomoco. The show is free-of-charge.
