THE past few decades have seen such wild changes in fashion: trends have come, gone and come back again, maisons have switched hands countless times, even the way we consume it has changed drastically. But there are the stalwarts, the creatives and visionaries who have been able to survive the winds of change because of consistent excellence and singular point of view.
Randy Ortiz has survived such change, continuously staying on top through timeless designs, his penchant for detail and a sharp knack for creatively manipulating fabrics—something which has kept Ortiz at the forefront, yet firmly situated as a fashion institution in himself. He celebrates 30 years of a stellar career with Randy O 30 Homage, a fashion and art show which showcases what’s made him one of the greats.
Ortiz recognizes by himself, he would not have been able to carve out a successful career—and with the kind of longevity he has enjoyed. “This show is to honor everyone who have been part of my journey as a fashion designer. I’m truly grateful for all the support they’ve given me through the years,” he said. He pays homage to those who have paved his way to international fashion stardom: peers, models, assistants, colleagues and Ortiz’s mother—his ultimate fashion inspiration and style icon.
Randy O 30 Homage, unveils a new collection filled with his greatest hits: a full range of silhouettes, textures and embellishments, using techniques his clientele—Manila’s crème de la crème—have come to know him for. Loyal followers can expect a wide collection ranging from sharp tailoring, soft draping, studies on volume, and fabric manipulation topped with handmade embroidery and beadwork. Ortiz also pays tribute to men through precise suiting elevated with subtle details and embroidery. The collection runs the gamut of colors, promising a visual and textural feast.
Because of his love and constant support for the Philippine arts, 10 artists, in collaboration with The Artologist Gallery, have come together to pay tribute to Ortiz. The event will unveil unique works inspired by Ortiz’s unabashed use of color, his techniques and the textures of the fabrics he loves working with. The different styles of Judeo Herrera, Julmard Vicente, Hiro Kawabata, Adam Nacianceno, Monnar, Fernando Antimano, Eman Santos, Dost Pilar, Valen Valero and Carlo Saavedra converge to create an art show worthy of the Filipino designer’s caliber.
