BANKO-PERLAS completed a five-game quarterfinal round sweep as the Perlas Spikers ousted the Petro Gazz Angels, 25-19, 25-19, 25-19, to clinch the No. 3 seed in the semifinals of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Season 2 Reinforced Conference on Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
Imports Kia Bright and Jutarat Montripila brought out the broom for BanKo, which remained unbeaten in even matches.
BanKo-Perlas starts its best-of-three semifinal showdown with PayMaya this Sunday.
The Perlas Spikers’ win over the Angels—done in only 62 minutes—pushed idle Pocari Sweat-Air Force to the last semifinals berth. Pocari will face the No.1 Creamline in the other semifinal.
Bright again led the way with 19 kills for 21 points with six digs, while Montripila delivered 12 hits on 12 digs and six excellent receptions.
“Even after winning the first two sets, we already clinched the semifinals,” BanKo Head Coach Dong de la Cruz said. “I told my players to keep their killer instincts and end the game in three sets for us to get the momentum going to the semifinals.”
BanKo forced Petro Gazz to 23 errors.
The Angels finished their campaign with a 3-2 win-loss record in the quarterfinals.
Olena Lymareva and Anastasiia Trach had 17 and 13 points, respectively, while Stephanie Mercado added 10 for the Angels.
In men’s play, Army refused to end its Reinforced Conference quarterfinals winless as the Troopers hung tough against Instituto Estetico Manila (IEM) Volley Masters, 25-18, 25-23, 22-25, 25-27, 16-14.
It was a no-bearing match between the Troopers and Volley Masters because both are out of the semifinals race. But they remained competitive and battled each other for one hour and 52 minutes.
Patrick John Roxas and Bejaylo Labide led Army with 16 and 15 points, respectively, while Jaidal Abdulnahid added 12 and Antonio Torres 11 for the Troopers.
