THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Monday announced the
arrest of two persons who have been convicted for stabbing to death US
Marines Major George Anikow in 2012 in Bel-Air Subdivision in Makati
City.
Arrested in separate operations on June 12 and June 14 in Mandaluyong
and Marikina City were Galicano Datu III and Crispin dela Paz.
Authorities also took into custody Jimmy Boy David, uncle of Datu, for
obstruction of justice.
Datu into hiding at a Mandaluyong condominium with his live-in partner
after leaning that a warrant of arrest was issued against him on
April 18, 2018
Dela Paz, on the other hand, was arrested after a car chase from San
Pedro, Laguna to Marikina City.
The operations against the accused were conducted in cooperation of
the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US embassy by virtue
of the arrest warrant for the crime of homicide.
The warrant of arrest was issued by dismissed Makati City Regional
Trial Court Judge Winlove Dumayas .
The Supreme Court ordered Dumayas’ dismissal from the service after
finding im guilty of gross negligence of the law and gross misconduct
over the sentencing of Anikow’s killers on a charge of homicide
instead of murder, which carries a heavier penalty of life
imprisonment.
The SC held Dumayas downgraded the offense without citing the required
factual and legal bases and by ignoring applicable jurisprudence.
Dumayas imposed a sentence of up to six years imprisonment only which
enabled the Datu and Dela Paz seek probation.
