KALIBO, Aklan—Shooting for a full-length documentary category for the stories of the 19 martyrs in the province may begin as an Aklanon film enthusiast and his team has received a grant.
JR Macahilas, the director of the documentary, said they would use a grant from the Film Development Council of the Philippines, which is under the Office of the President.
The script is tentatively titled Daan Patungong Tawaya. Macahilas told the BusinessMirror he would tap John Barrios of the University of the Philippines-Visayas as consultant, Kevin Pison Piamonte as codirector, and Ruperto Quitag and Emman Larona as directors of photography.
The 19 martyrs is a story of local revolutionary leaders who were killed during the Spanish occupation in the province.
Their martyrdom is being commemorated every month of March in this town. A shrine was built to remind Aklanons of their bravery during the Spanish occupation.
Jess L. Fernandez of the Aklan Historical Society said the film documentary would be a welcome contribution to continue reminding the new generations on the history of the province.
