THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will provide juicy cash rewards to top-performing local government units (LGUs) in the Philippine National Games (PNG).
A financial assistance of P5 million will be given to the overall champion while P1 million will go to the fourth-placed LGU in the PNG, which Cebu is hosting from May 19 to 25.
“We will give money to top LGUs. It will encourage them to send their best athletes,” Ramirez said.
“But the money should also go to their sports program.”
Around 8,500 athletes from all over the country will participate in the weeklong tournament.
Twenty-two sports will be played in 12 venues in Cebu City and other towns such as Lapu Lapu City, Naga City, Tabuelan City and Danao City.
The presence of national athletes will hike the level of competitions in the PNG, but Ramirez warned that the elite athletes should be performing at their best to keep their positions in the national teams.
“We have to see the best athletes in the PNG. If we see someone who is really deserving to make it to the national team, then we will invite him,” he said.
