KALIBO, Aklan—The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is currently guiding stakeholders in this town to make its piña-weaving tradition for inclusion in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco).
Anna India Legaspi, a local heritage advocate here, said Intangible Cultural Heritage is a program of the Unesco based in Paris.
On February 16 the NCCA led a consultation at the Kalibo Festival Hotel here. The consultation was attended by the local government and the weavers representative of the towns of Balete and Kalibo, the Aklan State University, the Philippine Fibers Development Authority, the departments of Science and Technology and Trade and Industry.
“The NCCA also encouraged participants to the consultation to create more School of Living Traditions to preserve traditional crafts,” she added.
