A recent speed-test report showed that the country’s average download speed for mobile broadband has improved by as much as 80.77 percent to 13.45 megabits per second in December 2017, from 7.44 Mbps in July 2016, along with the fixed broad band which rose 92.03 percent to 15.19Mbps, from 7.91Mbps, during the same period.
According to the Speedtest Global Index Report of December 2017, the monthly average for both the mobile and fixed broadband has grown steadily in the Philippines since July 2016, owing to improved Internet services.
President Duterte has repeatedly called on industry players to shape up or face competition. Just recently, he has opened the telecommunications sector to a third player to boost competition and Internet service in the country.
Faster Internet speed and availability are also expected to improve further with the implementation of the National Broadband Plan by the Department of Information and Communications Technology.
In the same report, Speedtest said the Philippines’s average download speed for mobile broadband climbed steadily, from 7.44 Mbps (July 2016), 7.7 Mbps (August 2016), 8.18 Mbps (September 2016), 8.56 Mbps (October 2016), 8.59 Mbps (November 2016), 9.53 Mbps (December 2016), 9.34 Mbps (January 2017), 10.07 Mbps (February 2017), 9.73 Mbps (March 2017), 9.71 Mbps (April 2017), 9.93 Mbps (May 2017), 10.32 Mbps (June 2017), 10.29 Mbps (July 2017), 10.47 Mbps (August 2017), 11.95 Mbps (September 2017), 12.31 Mbps (October 2017), 12.35 Mbps (November 2017) and 13.4 Mbps (December 2017).
For fixed broadband, the country’s monthly average also continued to trend upward, from 7.91 Mbps (July 2016), 8.54 Mbps (August 2016), 8.76 Mbps (September 2016), 8.60 Mbps (October 2016), 9.35 Mbps (November 2016), 9.71 Mbps (December 2016), 10.16 Mbps (January 2017), 10.68 Mbps (February 2017), 10.81 Mbps (March 2017), 10.84 Mbps (April 2017), 10.96 Mbps (May 2017), 11.66 Mbps (June 2017), 12.43 Mbps (July 2017), 13.29 Mbps (August 2017), 13.41 Mbps (September 2017), 13.13 Mbps (October 2017), 14.42 Mbps (November 2017) and 15.19 Mbps (December 2017).
