ANOTHER year, another round of making original Pilipino music (OPM) history as Rakrakan Festival just keeps on getting bigger, louder and bolder—and there’s no stopping it!
Get ready for a more diverse OPM selection, more stages to enjoy and of course, a whole lot of new activities to experience at the vast Aseana City Concert Grounds on February 24, for “Rakrakan Festival 2018: Pinoy Muna!”
This year, Rakrakan will feature 120 OPM artists, six stages, a skateboarding exhibition and competition, live art contests joined by top universities, a merch exhibit and many other thrilling activities.
With the addition of the Center Stage, Rakrakan festivalgoers may enjoy an even wider range of genres from their favorite solo artists. This new stage will show iconic performances from Gloc 9, Loonie, Ron Henley, Dello, Smugglaz and classic performances from Freestyle, Side A and South Border. Ely Buendia will also be headlining this brand-new stage. Witness the comeback performance of Orange and Lemons with its original frontman Clem Castro and, for the first time ever, Silent Sanctuary is going to play.
Meanwhile, the Move Stage will have Sponge Cola, Barbie Almalbis, Gracenote, Moonstar88, Urbandub, Hale, 6Cyclemind, December Avenue and Mayonnaise. Slapshock, Kwjan, Philia, Wilabaliw, Basti Artadi and the 2018 Muziklaban Champion, along with many others, are bound to shake up the Mosh Stage. It will also carry Mr. Bones and the Boneyard Circus, The Wuds, Sky Church, Philippine Violators and many more heavy acts with performances sure to cause head banging and slamming all night long.
New and upcoming artists are going to dominate the Indie stage like Ben&Ben, IV of Spades, Agsunta, Leanne & Naara, Clara Benin, Reese Lansangan and more. Brownman Revival, Kokoi Baldo, On The Spot, Miko Suave and many Filipino reggae and ska artists will bring in the good vibes at the Groove Stage.
Rakrakan Festival 2018: Pinoy Muna! promises to give a one-of-a-kind OPM festival experience, as performances will run simultaneously on all stages as it has done since 2013, assuring another wild and monumental experience for every OPM fan in attendance.
The festival will cater not only to music lovers but also to art and extreme sports fanatics with several pocket events.
Skateboarding exhibition and competition: A staple since 2013, it features a free-for-all skateboarding area for attendees with freebies and prizes at stake for contest participants in several categories, including Best Run and Best Trick.
Live art contest: Ten five-member teams from top tertiary institutions like University of the Philippines, De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University, University of Santo Tomas, University of the East, Mapua University, Lyceum of the Philippines University, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and many more are going to compete and showcase their creativity through street art. They will be judged based on their original style and design. In addition, a “freedom wall” will be set up for guests who wish to express their creativeness and leave their impression for future generations of OPM supporters.
Merch exhibit: Currently the largest congregation of indie merchandisers in Metro Manila with over 70 brands participating annually, festivalgoers will find everything here—from tees and tank tops to shorts and jeans, jackets, socks, jewelry, footwear, artworks, sunglasses, pins, caps, toys and plenty of other goods at very affordable prices.
Side activities like giant inflatable rides, face painting and henna tattooing, brand-sponsored games and artist meet-and-greet for VIP ticket holders will take place to complement the whole festival
experience.
Early-bird tickets are now available at all SM Tickets outlets nationwide for only P500 and VIPs at P1,500 (excluding charges) for limited slots only, while ticket prices at the venue are at P600 and P2,000.
