DAVAO CITY—The die is cast.
Twenty two public and private schools are ready to grab the spotlight in the February 1 to 3 first edition of the Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MCM) Cup, the same most participated multidiscipline, multiintellectual-skill competition in Metro Manila and the Region 4 area.
Of the competing pool, nine are public schools, with two of them science schools. One school is based in Tagum City, the Tagum City National High School, and from the Davao del Sur town of Malalag, the Holy Cross of Malalag.
In the confirmed registered list are: Binugao National High School, Brokenshire Science High School, Catalunan Pequeño National High School, Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School, Davao Central College, Davao Chong Hua High School, Davao City National High School, Davao Wisdom Academy, Holy Child College of Davao-Mintal Campus;
The Holy Cross of Malalag, Maryknoll College of Davao City, Mintal Comprehensive High School, Our Lady of Fatima, Pablo Lorenzo High School, Philippine Academy of Sakya-Davao Inc., Philippine Science High School, San Pedro College, Sirawan National High School, Saint John Paul II College of Davao, Saint Peter Toril and the Wisdom Islamic School, Davao City Inc.
The first edition would field them in the mathematics, science and brainmasters jousts, and in the artistic categories of chorale and speech-choir competitions.
Dodjie S. Maestrecampo, MCM executive vice president and COO, said the MCM Cup would be a regular annual feature of the Mapua University in Mindanao, its fourth campus in the Philippines that is set to open this June.
Maestrecampo told the BusinessMirror the cup would test the school competitors’ abilities and level of excellence in the categories opened in this year’s edition. Its forerunning competition in Luzon has 14 categories.
The MCM opens in June this year, with its senior high school and the baccalaureate courses in engineering, information technology and other related courses.
