San Juan City received P2.4 million from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for winning the Seal of Good Governance Award for 2017.
Mayor Guia Gomez said the P2.4-million cash award would go to the purchase of equipment needed for the Health Center on Pedro Cruz.
“We are happy with this award. This just goes to show that the city government is really working hard for our people and our city,” Gomez said in an interview with the BusinessMirror.
The award was handed by Maria Lourdes Agustin, DILG National Capital Region director, during the flag-raising ceremony at the city hall compound in Barangay Pinaglabanan.
To qualify for the award, local government units (LGUs) must comply with the “4+1” assessment criteria. They must pass four core areas, namely, financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection and peace and order.
The LGUs must also pass at least one essential area from business friendliness and competitiveness; tourism, culture and the arts; or environmental protection.
Awardees are conferred with a Seal of Good Governance marker to be placed in their provincial, city, or municipal hall, and qualify for the Performance Challenge Fund, an incentive in millions of pesos to be used for local development projects.
Gomez said they will use the money to finance her priority projects, including the city’s 7K program—Kaunlaran, Kabuhayan, Katahimikan, Kalusugan, Kalinisan, Kalikasan and Kalinga sa Pamilya. Gomez returned to work last week after going on leave last December 4.
