A NEWLY formed group of farmers and fishermen in Central Visayas held its first regional assembly in Cebu City last Saturday.
More than 100 chapter leaders are in attendance to the Liga ng mga Mag-uumang Probinsiyano (LMP) regional assembly at Saint Mark Hotel near the Redemptorist Church.
Catherine Canoy, LMP secretary-general, said right now, they already have around 8,000 individual members.
LMP was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on April 10, 2017.
Canoy said they are going around in four provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor to invite members.
She added they are helping farmers and fishers with their needs not being addressed by the government.
They have not even tapped existing and registered farmers and fishers’ organization as they want new members to he LMP.
LMP Founding Chairman Benjamin Santos said they are helping members in terms of free health-care services, education and scholarship, especially those whose income is below the poverty threshold.
They encourage farmers and fishers to approach their local chapter leaders in each municipality if they wish to become a member.
Canoy said they are planning to hold a general assembly for all its members soon.
Saturday’s event was only participated by local chapter presidents throughout the
Central Visayas.
