AFTER attaining the distinction of placing No. 12 on Asia’s best airports in October 2016 by interactive travel web site “The Guide to Sleeping in Airports,” Iloilo International Airport did it again, earning a star rating for On-Time Performance (OTP) based on the results of the 2016-2017 Official Aviation Guide (OAG) survey.
The OAG is an air-travel intelligence company based in the United Kingdom. It provides digital information and applications to the world’s airlines, airports, government agencies and travel-related service companies.
The OAG is best known for its airline-schedule database, which holds future and historical flight details to more than 900 airlines and over 4,000 airports.
The OTP star rating is designed to benchmark against set criteria, defined by industry and
flight-status information experts. The OTP is measured across the whole year based on 12 months of rolling performance.
To achieve an OTP star rating, the world’s airlines and airports must meet two criteria: All airlines and airports must have a minimum of 600 operations a month (minimum of 2.5 million departed seats) and the OAG must receive flight-status information for no less than 80 percent of scheduled flights within a 12-month period.
Aside from the Iloilo International Airport’s landing 14th place, besting Kuala Lumpur, Seoul Incheon and Hong Kong International Airports, other airports in the country that earned a star rating on OTP this year were the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, and the airports in Bacolod, Davao, Tacloban, Laguindingan (Cagayan de Oro), Kalibo and Puerto Princesa.
