THE German supplier of the new drivers’ license cards in the Philippines is scouting for more government deals.
Dermalog Identification Systems GmbH CEO Gunther Mull said on Tuesday his group is looking for more opportunities in the identification and security sectors, such as electronic passports and national identification cards.
“We have helped to shape the world of security through our innovations, and we see many areas where the Philippines can benefit from our technology,” he said. “From border control systems to e-passports and ID cards, we are ready to support the government.”
Currently, Dermalog supplies the license cards to the Land Transportation Office (LTO). It is also the contractor for the automatic fingerprint identification system at the regulator.
It bagged the P830-million contract to supply the transportation sector’s need for advanced license cards, which are now valid for five years.
Loaded with a record-setting 32 security features, the new driver’s license of LTO is embedded with the card owner’s biometric information, such as fingerprints, a compressed photograph and demographic data, in a two-dimensional barcode. It also contains six Guilloche and 11 holographic security features, among others.
Gunther said Dermalog has painted a rosy outlook for its Philippine operations, noting that his group decided to establish its office in Makati City.
Aside from Philippine deals, it existing projects include large-scale government installations in Germany and in 25 other European countries, as well as the new biometric border control systems and ID systems in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Brunei Danissalam and in several other Asian countries.
