THE second season of American sports-entertainment show Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge premiered on Philippine TV recently, featuring a redesigned field and tougher challenges.
The show comes from the same producers of the hit series American Ninja Warrior, and pits teams of five members in strenuous challenges from rope-burning climbs to wet-mud crawls, tire swings to slip walls, all for a $250,000 prize money.
Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge Season 2 airs Saturdays, 9:35 pm, on RTL CBS Extreme.
Omar Gepiga, RTL CBS Extreme marketing head, said the new season showcases a redesigned Spartan Arena, where obstacles have been meticulously constructed for a more challenging field. “Viewers will see more exciting obstacles that were not in Season 1. Teamwork is a vital part of the competition, and this season will still prove that no one wins by himself.”
The show’s concept was inspired by the Spartan Race, a series of obstacle races that has held over 200 events in 30 countries.
On September 16 the country will be hosting its first Reebok Spartan Race at the Timberland grounds in San Mateo, Rizal. Director of Spartan Race Philippines Michael Reyes said the event is “50-percent physical and 50-percent mental. Physical training is going to get you there, but it’s designed to test you mentally.”
Preparation for the Spartan Race requires at least two to three months of intensive training and a strict diet, according to Coach Rholan Adaya of Fitness First Philippines, the official fitness partner of Spartan Race Philippines.
Adaya believes that anyone has a shot in the Spartan Race as long as proper preparations are made.
At the recent launch of Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge Season 2 at Fitness First SM North Edsa The Block, members of the media were given a preview of the 45-minute Spartan SGX program, a designed course of exercise that Fitness First offers for participants of the Spartan Race. There was also a viewing party for the first episode of the show’s second season.
Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge Season 2 bolsters the profile of RTL CBS Extreme as the cable destination for action-packed content, with shows, such as the mixed martial arts action-drama Kingdom and feature documentaries, such as I Am Bruce Lee and I Am Steve McQueen, among others.
RTL CBS Extreme is available on SKYcable HD channel 209, Destiny Cable Digital channel 104 and Cablelink HD channel 310.
