UNIVERSITY of the Philippines (UP) blasted away at Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP), 25-20, 25-9, 25-13, to barge into the win column in Group B of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Collegiate Conference on Monday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
After losing to Adamson University, 25-17, 21-25, 25-19, 19-25, 9-15, the Lady Maroons vented their ire on the Lady Engineers and were overpowering in the third set where they jumped to 17-3 and never looked back.
UP tied San Beda College in third place, behind unbeaten Adamson University (2-0) and Arellano University (2-1).
UP skipper Diana Carlos finished with 14 points on 11 attacks, two blocks and a service ace with seven receptions. She said they had nothing in mind but to bounce back.
“We really wanted to bounce back from that lost to Adamson and win this game,” said Carlos, who was named player of the game. “In this game, we did not rush for each point and we played with more patience.”
Isa Molde contributed 12 hits highlighted by six service aces and Marian Buitre added nine points for UP.
The Lady Engineers dropped to 0-2 to fall behind College of Saint Benilde (0-1).
De La Salle, meanwhile, arrested a two-game skid by stunning National University, 31-29, 25-23, 20-25, 19-25, 15-6, in the men’s contest.
The Green Spikers improved to a 2-2 win-loss card with Arjay Onia scoring 21 points off 18 spikes and Raymark Woo and Cris Dumago chipping in 15 hits apiece.
Joshua Jose added 13 points and setter Wayne Marco made 57 excellent sets and nine points for De La Salle, which sent NU to a 1-2 record.
San Beda ended a two-game slump following a 25-22, 25-22, 25-19 victory over UP in the other men’s match.
