Brafe 12–More golf for education

In Photo: The BusinessMirror renews its support for BRAFE Golf. BRAFE Golf committee members Edmund Datuin, Albert Garcia, Roy Peña and George Elazegui celebrate with BusinessMirror Publisher T. Anthony C. Cabangon and Golf editor Mike Besa (third and fourth from left, respectively).

The BRAFE Golf Tournament was organized by Bro. Rafael Donato (Bro. Rafe to all his friends) in 1988 to provide scholarships to financially challenged but deserving students at De La Salle University Lipa. In 1998 the foundation extended its scholarship assistance to top-ranking students from barangay high schools (national high schools) in the province of Batangas. It has since been providing free tuition and fees so that qualified candidates can earn a university degree from De La Salle University Lipa.

Former classmates of Brother Donato, along with former students and friends, conceived and organized BRAFE Golf in 2005 as a vehicle to raise funds for the foundation. The tournament has become somewhat of an institution. It is arguably the largest nonclub-sponsored tournament in the country. The fact that the event has been held for 12 years is a testament to its success and the generosity of the Lasallian community.

By the conclusion of the tournament’s 12th edition, BRAFE Golf will have raised over P11 million for the foundation and given a lot of deserving disadvantaged teens a lifeline to a better life through a Lasallian education.

The BusinessMirror has been a staunch supporter of BRAFE Golf having been a media sponsor of the tournament since its inception. The BusinessMirror is proud of this relationship and of the good that it does and will continue to support BRAFE Golf in the years to come.

BRAFE 12 tees off on the second of October 2017 at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club.
