A TELECOMMUNICATIONS company will build a drug- rehabilitation center worth P35 million in Pinamungajan town in southern Cebu, at no cost to the Cebu provincial government.
Gov. Hilario Davide III recommended the Dr. Jose Ma. V. Borromeo Memorial District Hospital in Pinamungajan, as it fitted Globe Telecommunications’s requirement.
He said the hospital has an area wide enough for the requirement of Globe Telecom, though the specific details will be provided for in the memorandum of agreement to be signed soon.
At present Globe Telecom is conducting inspection in the 2,000-square-meter proposed area.
Globe representatives JP Gulay and Rofil Sheldon Magto met the governor last Friday for discussion on the planned drug-rehab center in Cebu.
They will turn it over to the capitol for the maintenance of the facility and the provincial government to hire and pay the personnel.
Once done, Globe officials assured the company would not interfere in the center’s operations. Davide said the facility will be owned by the Cebu provincial government.
Globe, in coordination with Ayala Foundation, built a drug-rehabilitation facility in Marawi City with a 70-bed capacity. Davide is hoping the company will build a bigger 100-bed capacity facility here.
Ivy Durano-Meca, chief of the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office and representatives from the Provincial Health Office, were also present during the meeting with Globe.
Davide-Meca earlier mentioned Globe’s proposal to Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Eric Noble during the turnover of cash awards to the Philippine National Police’s successful anti-illegal drug operation on July 17, and the police official welcomed this development.
