SOME 2,032 households will be sampled in Eastern Visayas during the conduct of the 2017 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) from August 14 to October 15 this year.
These households will be visited by PSA personnel and hired field interviewers and will be interviewed using tablets guided by Computer Aided Personal Interview (Capi) System.
The 2017 NDHS is a national sample survey designed to provide information on population, family planning, maternal and child health, child survival, HIV/AIDS and reproductive health in the Philippines.
The NDHS is undertaken as part of the worldwide Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) Program. The international DHS Program is designed to a) assist countries in conducting household sample surveys to periodically monitor changes in population, health and nutrition; and b) provide database that can be used by researchers investigating topics related to population, health and nutrition.
Apart from the household questionnaire, the survey will also involve interviewing all eligible women who are between 15 and 49 years of age. These respondents will be asked questions about their background, the children they have given birth to, their knowledge and use of family planning methods, the health of their children, their awareness of HIV/AIDS and other information.
Data collected from the 2017 NDHS will provide database that can be used by policy-makers and administrators of health and family planning in their plans and services. It will also be useful for researchers of topics related to population, health and nutrition.
