FOUR straight wins and Flying V has turned from contender to team to beat.
No less that Flying V Coach Eric Altamirano has readily admitted that his troops, the only unbeaten team in the Philippine Basketball Association Developmental League Foundation Cup, has become a hot target by their next six opponents.
“I’m sure, all teams are now targeting our back,” Altamirano declared.
And he expects another tough match today when the Thunder face off against last conference’s runner-up Racal Motors. Game time is set at 5 o’clock at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig, City.
Altamirano said their 83-78 victory against Marinerong Pilipino last week was a good workout in terms of preparation against heavyweights, like Racal.
“Our next games are going to be very tough, so it was important that we were able to meet the challenge. I thought the team have shown a great character the past couple of games. They refused to back down even when we were down big,” Altamirano said.
Racal, on the other hand, will try to bounce back from back to back defeats that hurt its bid of finishing in the top 2 at the end of the eliminations. The Alibaba are coming off a 93-84 shocker against Wangs Basketball.
Racal Coach Jerry Codiñera claimed the recent roster changes have taken a toll on the team’s stability, although he’s hopeful the week-long break would allow the players to get back on the winning track.
“We’re struggling at the moment. But we’re trying to keep our balance with the changes we went through. Hopefully, we could show some character and chemistry against Flying V,” Codinera said.
